I officially welcome you to my attempt to join the massive blogging world. Feels good, doesn’t it? I’m hoping that what you find here will be an accessible and enjoyable look into the extremely fuzzy boundaries between “religion” (if there is such a blanket concept) and “art” (ditto on the blanket thing). My point being, I don’t believe there’s a way for the theologian to get around art/cultural expression or a way for the artist to get around the divinity that infuses what they create.
So, if you can buy that…welcome aboard. I don’t intend to use this site as some form of personal journal where you, the privileged reader, can gaze into all the wonderful insights I behold. Mainly because that’s crap, and you know it. I just want to tell you what I’m noticing, with more frequency, all the time – when people create anything, something amazing is taking place. No matter how “secular” the artistic expression may be, the creative act is pretty damn miraculous. That being said, I plan to use this forum to point out the specific instances where I feel like this fabricated barrier between religious expression and artistic expression breaks down. And, I’ll occasionally invite my fellow up-and-coming theologians and friends to do the same. I wouldn’t want you to get bored with me, after all.
Enjoy.

Damn, blogrolling me on something even vaguely religious seems at least borderline sacreligious. As to your cherry-popping post, I do find the deeply ingrained religiousity of pop culture interesting. But to me, it’s a pretty simple matter of how inescapable religion (specifically Christianity) is in western culture. While not always under the veil of religion, what are ultimately Christian morals are pounded into us from the time we’re kids until, well, forever.
At least that’s how I see it.
